treacle tart

In this post we journey across the pond tot he UK, and to a favorite traditional snack. Treacle tart. The taste is surprisingly owing the fabulous burnt sugar taste of the golden syrup and the fresh zing of the lemon.

The ingredients are as follows:
for the pastry:

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/4 lb butter, chilled
  • 2 tablespoons superfine sugar
  • 1 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons ice water For the superfine sugar if you don't have it pulse granulated sugar in a food processor. Combine sugar, salt, and flour. Then cut chilled butter into the flour until the mix resembles a coarse pea size meal. (to make it easier on myself I freeze my butter, grate and then chill. It blends much easier.) Then add in the ice water and knead until a soft smooth dough ball comes together
